4 PAST EVENTS

The last few months have provided many memories among the brothers, their parents, and the KA Alumni base.

Recently, the annual Convivium trip took the brothers to the French Quarter in New Orleans. The trip spanned 4 days and featured the formal event on Sunday, January 14.

After Thanksgiving, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, the Yellow Jackets hosted top-seeded UGA at Bobby Dodd Stadium. A vibrant tailgate took place, with live music and a ton of people.

Saturday, October 28, 2023, was Homecoming. The chapter hosted one of its largest tailgates in recent history before the GT-UNC game, which was a thriller. There was an Alumni breakfast in the morning, followed by a Gameday BBQ, where brothers smoked over 150 lbs of pork for the tailgate’s attendees.

The week prior, Saturday, October 21, 2023, was the Fall Parents’ Weekend, with the Boston College football game. Parents, siblings, and friends of the current brothers all came together to enjoy food and live music.

6 BROTHER SPOTLIGHT

Jack Terry (PC ‘22)

Our February 2024 Brother Spotlight is on Jack Terry. Jack is a fourth-year at Georgia Tech, pursuing his B.S. in Civil Engineering. He is from Little Rock, Arkansas, and was initiated into the Alpha Sigma Chapter in the Fall of 2020. Jack has served the chapter as both the Sergeant-at-Arms (VIII) in 2022 and the Philanthropy Chair in 2023.

On top of his classwork, Jack has been involved as a Student Assistant for the GT Denning Technology & Management Program since August 2021. He is also active with Campus Outreach, GT Intramurals, and is a passionate Yellow Jackets athletics fan. Jack and his fiancée, Marisa, got engaged in July.

This past summer, Jack interned with HNTB as a Bridge Engineer, and the summer before he interned with Garver as a Transportation Engineer. After graduation, Jack will return to Garver in Fayetteville, AR to join their Structural Engineering team full-time. He also plans to go to Graduate School for Structural Engineering in the near future.

7 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Tom Atkinson (PC ‘92)

Tom Atkinson was an Alpha Sigma from 1992-1996, and has fond memories of the old KA House and brothers. He remembers House Manager Joe Johnson trying to hold the house together with duct tape until the current house at 801 Techwood Drive was completed.

After graduation in Mechanical Engineering, Tom worked for Huber Corp. before returning to Tech to earn his M.B.A. in 2002. Soon after, Tom married Bethany, moved to Decatur, GA, and worked for Delta Air Lines and Novare Group. Then he quickly began his real estate career in 2004. As an experienced landlord, property manager and realtor, he has been adding clients, tenants, and investment properties for 20 years now. He helps clients play musical chairs with their homes, so please call him if you are moving anywhere in Atlanta. (404-441-2370) He gives clients detailed insight, and unparalleled expertise for buying or selling investment real estate too.

Bethany is thinking of retiring from Adidas and helping Tom with the real estate business, since Tom enjoys it so much! Tom and Bethany have two sons, Luke and Landon. Landon is a varsity Lacrosse captain at Decatur High School, and working on his Eagle Scout. Luke Atkinson was just initiated into the Alpha Sigma Chapter, after serving as Pledge Class President. He is now one of the chapter’s House Managers and is pursuing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tom’s extra curricular activities include helping with the scout troop in Decatur, traveling with family to beaches in FL & SC, hiking the Appalachian Trail, and kayaking Georgia rivers. He is member of Decatur First United Methodist, where he has served on the trustees, and as council chairman.

8 FALL 2024 RUSH

With the Spring Semester in full-gear, the Rush Committee is working hard to build a strong Fall 2024 pledge class. Our new Number IV, Charles Daniel, is looking forward to receiving any and all recommendations for incoming freshmen or transfer students. Please reach Charles at (706-939-0808) with any questions or concerns.

9 PHILANTHROPY + FUNDRAISING

Working alongside KA Nationals, the Alpha Sigma Chapter is proud to announce a new partner in our Philanthropic efforts: The Independence Fund. The Independence Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of both Veterans and their families through mobility. Our goal for 2024 is to raise $30,000 for an all-terrain wheelchair for an injured veteran in the Atlanta area.

On a fundraising note, the chapter is in the process of raising money for a new front yard. The plan is to raise $10,000 to level the yard, install a retaining wall, and lay down turf for a fresh look to match our beautiful house.
